About Pre Shot Golf

We built the training aid the industry forgot to build — one that answers golf's most fundamental question.

A Question At A Youth Clinic

The idea for Pre Shot Golf came from a chance moment at a youth golf clinic with Xander Schauffele. A young player asked him a simple question: how do you know how far to stand from the ball?

Schauffele's answer stuck with us. He described using a second perpendicular alignment stick — one marked with positions for each club — to find his exact setup every time. It was a simple, elegant solution to a question every golfer asks but few have ever been able to answer with precision.

That conversation became the seed for Pre Shot Golf. Golf is a game of precision — the slightest difference in how your clubface strikes the ball can completely change the shot — so we took the idea and refined it, testing and rebuilding alongside amateur and professional golfers until it became a repeatable, evidence-based system any golfer could use, for every club in the bag.

Grip and swing are well covered — there's decades of writing, coaching, and equipment built around both. Stance, body position, and alignment are different. Golf greats like Ben Hogan wrote about foot position for every club, but the guidance was general, not precise. Walk any driving range and you'll see golfers lining up alignment sticks — some marked with hash marks for each club — trying to manually recreate a system that didn't exist as a real product.

We realized there was no real training tool on the market built for this part of the game. So we built one.

The Setup Gap

There are hundreds of swing trainers. Countless grip aids. An entire industry of putting tools. But there has never been a single training aid to help golfers answer the most fundamental question in golf: "How far should I stand from the ball — and where should my feet be — for this club, for this shot?"

Your setup is the foundation your swing is built on. Distance from ball, foot spread, ball position, stance alignment — these variables change club to club, shot to shot, and over time as your body changes. Impact sticker tape reveals the symptom. Pre Shot Golf gives you precise measurements to find the cause and fix it, club by club.

Stance, body position, and alignment aren't a single, linear fix — they're a multidimensional puzzle. It wasn't simple to build a training aid for all three together. But we did, and we treat them as foundational elements of the golf shot, on equal footing with swing and grip.

We built the Pre Shot Golf system to end the guessing.

01

Discover

Apply impact sticker tape to your clubface. Set a distance with the Pre Shot device and swing. Read the trace — off the toe, move closer; near the hosel, step back. Repeat until pure center-face contact, club by club.

02

Record

Once your trace is consistently pure, record your exact setup — distance from ball, foot position, ball placement, tee height, shot shape, and reference photos — for every club.

03

Repeat

Return to your optimal, evidence-based setup on command. On the range. On the course. After a two-week break when the feeling is gone.

Built For Every Handicap

We assumed the biggest benefit would go to high-handicap golfers. Testing with low-handicap and scratch players proved otherwise. They know exactly what consistency is worth — a tool that flags even a minor variation in setup helps them spot a problem fast, and makes every practice session more efficient.

It also helps shape shots. Whether you're working a cut or a draw, Pre Shot Golf adds precision to finding the stance and body position that gets you there.
